Ayia Thekla

To the eastern side of Cyprus near the ever popular beautiful beaches of Ayia Napa, Ayia Thekla is about 7klm west of Ayia Napa, 10 minutes by car. The Ayia Thekla area and beach is known generally as the stunning area of quiet beauty between Larnaca and Protaras. The charm of the location is enhanced by the scenery, which is serene and peaceful; the coastline is a combination of small sandy bays inserted within rocky outcrops. The absence of any hotels in the vicinity maintains the charm of this residential area. The up and coming residential area of Ayia Thekla is becoming one of the most sought after locations to live permanently in Cyprus and it's not hard to see why.

This beautiful area is one of the last places on the island that has remained free of commercial development; you won't see any multi story hotels, the golden arches of McDonalds or even a souvenir shop, even better than this is the fact that this area is free of noise pollution as well.

You can spend the entire day lazing on the long stretch of beach in Ayia Thekla without hearing a single footstep go past, but if you prefer something livelier, the popular beaches of Ayia Napa and Protaras are only a few minutes away! If night life is your thing the cosmopolitan environment of Ayia Napa is yours to conquer. Ayia Thekla is perfect for those who seek the privacy and seclusion of a residential area but still want to be within easy reach of the 4 major resorts and towns of the area.
The church of Ayia Thekla is one of the oldest spots in the area dating back to the middle ages. It sits in a peaceful setting, fronted by the beautiful turquoise Mediterranean Sea and surrounded by natural flora. Legend has it that the church over the centuries has suffered severe damage caused by the many armies that conquered the island through time. The church in its present condition dates back to the beginning of the last century. A small sandy beach also lies here with a tiny island just of the shore that keeps the waves away. Approximately a few kilometers from the center of Ayia Napa, a 10 to 15 minute drive respectively from Paralimni and Protaras and about 40 minutes from Larnaca.

The area of Ayia Thekla is the beachfront part of the village of Sotira which is an agricultural community that lives off the land from mainly from the growing of potatoes and watermelons.

Painfull sun burn, dehydration and overheating are all caused by over exposure to the sun so please cover up, use protective sun creams and drink plenty of non-alcoholic drinks, preferably bottled water to replenish body fluids. Please ensure that babies and children especially are fully protected with high factor sun creams throughout the duration of your holiday. Having a sick or unwell child on holiday is additional stress that we could all do without.
